Martha is a non-playable character who appears in the level Misfortune in Morocco in The Operative: No One Lives Forever and is mentioned again in No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way.

Background[]

She and her husband Clark went to Morocco for their second honeymoon, although she tells Cate that she wanted to go to France instead. Martha has a friend named Abigail to whom she sent a postcard from Morocco.

Martha and Clark in Morocco

Martha and Clark can be found in in the Grand Caravan Hotel, Marrakesh, Morocco, where they can be briefly interacted with. While Clark states that "this vacation is exactly what I needed," Martha complains that "I wanted to go to France but Clark insisted on coming to Morocco." When Volkov's men attempt to kill everyone in the hotel, they can be found again in the same location and must be protected from the assailants.

In the letters found in their hotel room, Clark reveals that he is in fact a Soviet spy and is going to leave Martha to return to his first wife. But probably due to Archer picking the letter, she doesn't learn that and stays with Clark.

In GOTY edition she and Clark reappear in bonus level Rest and Relaxation. In a letter she wished luck to them and said that her husband Todd had been drinking in the lounge. Martha asked Clark "Does this dress make me look fat?". Clark told her "Well, you don't look fat from where I'm standing" and she suspected him in thinking that she looked fat from behind.

In No One Lives Forever 2[]

Sometime thereafter, Clark defected from the Soviet Union and joined H.A.R.M. where he took on a job as a guard in the submarine bay of H.A.R.M.'s Secret Underwater Base in the Aegean Sea. The player encounters him again in the level Undersea, which will inevitably lead to his death. A letter found on his body reveals that he wrote to Martha informing her of his new job and begging her to take him back.

Martha's response to Clark's plea can be found in the same area in the submarine bay. In her letter to Clark, she explains that her mother had forwarded Clark's letter to her and reveals that she had been so devastated over Clark's confession that she wandered across the Sahara Desert for weeks filled with grief. On the verge of starvation, she was eventually found by some Berber nomads near Merzouga and fell in love with the desert. Martha rejects Clark's attempt at reconciliation and sharply claims that the Sahara Desert was a much better companion to her than Clark had ever been.

Trivia[]

  • It's unknown why Martha and Clark are met again in Rest and Relaxation, while in sequel it's said that she had been wandering in Sahara. They could revisit Morocco after resting on island paradise.
  • Her best friend's name is Abigail. Not only Martha is mentioned and Clark is present in No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way, there's mentioned Abigail Anders. She is a daughter of Joseph Anders, who confuses Cate with her. Abigail Anders could be the friend of her.
